Temple University AP credit

What each AP score earns at Temple University: 40 exams, credit shown in semester hours. Always confirm with the school before you plan your schedule.

Rules that apply to every exam

  • Students must have College Board send official AP score reports to Temple's Office of Undergraduate Admissions (College Board code 2906). AP credit is not awarded until the official score report is received.
  • Temple may not receive AP scores in time for orientation, so scores may not post for registration advising. Students should discuss completed and pending AP exams with an academic advisor.
  • If dual enrollment credit for an AP course and the AP exam score both exist, Temple awards credit only based on the dual enrollment credit.
  • Students cannot receive credit for the same course twice, so duplicate credit for college coursework and AP scores is not awarded.
  • All incoming first-year students must take placement assessments, including English, Mathematics, and possibly Foreign Language, even when AP credit is received.
  • If an AP Math score indicates a higher math level than placement results, the AP score determines math placement. Bring an unofficial AP score report to orientation.
  • Students earning a 4 or higher on AP English Language and Composition are waived from English 802 and the English placement assessment, beginning Spring 2017.
  • Students earning AP English Literature & Composition credit are not waived from English 802 and must complete the English placement assessment.
  • AP credits do not transfer as direct equivalents to Temple GenEd courses but may satisfy designated GenEd areas. Students should consult DARS.
  • Colleges and Schools may limit the type and number of AP credits applied to a degree.
  • Students prepared for Math 1042 (0086) but scoring below 4 on Calculus BC should contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Mathematics.
  • Effective date notes refer to the semester a student sat for the AP exam.
