University of Texas Rio Grande Valley AP credit

What each AP score earns at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley: 41 exams, credit shown in semester hours. Always confirm with the school before you plan your schedule.

Rules that apply to every exam

  • Only 30 hours of credit by examination, regardless of source (AP/IB/CLEP or other), can be used to satisfy degree requirements.
  • If multiple exams result in the same course credit equivalency, the credit will only be given once.
  • Official scores must be sent directly to UTRGV from the testing agency.
  • Claiming credit is not reversible; students should consult their advisor before claiming it.
  • Earning a D or better, or credit elsewhere, for a course claimed through Credit by Examination makes that course a repeated course.
  • Credit granted through Credit by Examination stays on the academic record even if the course is repeated.
  • All credits granted are recorded with a grade of CR, which is not calculated in the GPA.
  • Credit by Examination may affect tuition rebate eligibility, financial aid grants, excess hour limits, and admission to professional or medical programs.
  • Students with no prior UTRGV enrollment may request credit after Census Day of their first term of enrollment.
