Allegheny College AP credit

What each AP score earns at Allegheny College for 2026: 38 exams, credit shown in semester hours. Always confirm with the school before you plan your schedule.

Rules that apply to every exam

  • Students may earn up to 20 semester college credits through AP. If more than 20 credits qualify, the student selects which 20 to post.
  • Scores of 4 or 5 earn academic credit, at four semester hours each, except BC Calculus scores of 4 or 5, which earn eight.
  • AP credit is removed from the transcript if the student later enrolls in the equivalent Allegheny course.
  • Exams with a specific course equivalent count toward a major or minor the same way as that course.
  • Exams assigned a 0AE course number count as elective credit in that department and may count toward its major or minor.
  • Exams with an AP prefix, such as AP*ENG, do not count toward a major or minor.
  • All AP credit, up to the limit of 20, counts toward the minimum credits required for graduation.
  • Course placement is determined by the appropriate department.
  • Students matriculating 16/FA and after: AP credit satisfies Distribution Requirements only if credit is awarded for an exact Allegheny course equivalent.
